Graphic design is the visual means of communication. It is a creative process that relies on art and technology. When someone designs a poster, letter, business logo, or magazine ad, she is using graphic design skills. The use of images along with text creates a powerful tool. This tool can convey information, moods and emotions. Graphic design projects can also be fun.
Posters
One of the easiest projects to design is a poster. Posters are all around, attached to telephone poles, bulletin boards, and movie theaters. Posters can be about any subject imaginable. One of the most important design elements for a poster is to use a dramatic image. On a poster, text is not usually the most important focus. It tells the information that the image cannot (like location and time). Pick a subject that you feel passionate about and attempt to let that passion be shown through the poster. Add it to the message communicated by the poster. Be sure to fill the entire space when you design it.
Gift Cards
Cards are a popular gift item. If a store-purchased card brings forth a desired feeling, a hand-designed card makes the message much more special. Brainstorm your message and come up with something personal that conveys a meaning. Place your artwork on the front and design the inside of the card. Special printer paper can be purchased and the card can be printed on high-quality printer. Each special card can be sent through the mail to share with someone else.
T-shirts
Art walks around on the street everyday. T-shirts are an extremely popular communication medium. Take an interesting image and put a creative message with it. Special iron-on transfer paper is available. Print your design on an inkjet printer. A laser printer will not work with this paper because it uses heat to set the ink onto the paper. This will melt the transfer paper and cause a paper jam. Simply iron on the design on to a white t-shirt and you have a graphic design project that you can wear.
