Preparing Your LPs
1. Select and dust your album covers. Go through your own collection of albums or shop for old favorites at your local record store and select covers that don't show a lot of wear, aren't torn or stained. Select colorful album covers or those of favorite bands. Dust the covers with a dry cloth.
2. Purchase special album cover sized frames. Framing album covers is a popular way to show off a collection, so framing manufacturers have produced square picture frames to fit the standard album. Most of these frames have black edges and blend nicely into any décor.
3. Remove the album from the cover. Although it's nice to keep collectible albums and their covers together, framing the cover with the album inside may press the album against the cover too tightly and eventually create an indentation on the cover. Protect your album in a blank sleeve.
Display Options
4. Hang gallery style. If you're decorating a bedroom or game room, you may want to display your collection gallery style. Line up framed albums so that they hang at the same height and at the same distance apart. Gallery style displays will be hung at eye level, or at about 60 inches from the floor.
5. Hang in a grouping. Smaller spaces like a hallway, dorm room or even a bathroom can benefit from album art, so hang a few LP covers in groupings of three to show off your collection in an interesting way. Hang at various heights and to create a more casual look.
6. Create a visual border around a room. Frame up dozens of album covers and hang at "plate rack" level around the upper portion of the walls. Place all around the room for a border look similar to a wallpaper border. Measure approximately 5 inches from the ceiling and use that to line up the top of each album cover to get a uniform look.
