Drawing the grim reaper is a suitable activity for the novice or mid-level sketch artist.
Getting into the Halloween spirit means more than just dressing up, going to a costume party or collecting candy from your neighbors. Truly embracing the Halloween spirit means decorating your house, sending out spooky cards and invitations and surrounding yourself with all things Halloween. An easy way to do this is to sketch drawings of typical Halloween figures. For example, the ability to sketch the grim reaper will make a creepy addition to your walls, windows and cards.
Instructions
1. Draw a round circle in the center of your page. Beneath the circle, though slightly overlapping it, draw a large oval. You've now created the head and cloak of your grim reaper.
2. Draw a skull shape in the center of your circle: first create a large upside-down tear shape. Create two small circles for eyes, and beneath the eyes, draw a small, curvy triangle for the nose. Draw a bold smile shape beneath the mouth and fill it full of missing teeth. Create the teeth by drawing tiny squares side by side and on top of each other. It's OK if they're not perfect; the more jagged they are the more fierce your grim reaper will look.
3. Draw a large diagonal line across the reaper's body. This will be the reaper's scythe. Draw two small circles on top of this line, where you want the hands of the reaper to be, holding it. Draw the bent lines of the arms, leading down to these circles.
4. Smooth the lines of your drawing, going over them and making them soft and curvy, so that it looks more like a cloak. Erase any guiding or overlapping lines.
5. Thicken the stick part of the scythe and draw the curved blade of the scythe. You can have the scythe point in any direction you like. Draw in the details of figure, like the bony fingers wrapped around the scythe. Extend the lines of the cloak downwards in a curve, so it looks like the cloak drapes on the floor.
