Draw A Circus Elephant

Learn draw a circus elephant.

Circus elephants are recognized by their elaborate outfits and playful props. The key to drawing one is to concentrate first and foremost on perfecting the elephant itself, then moving on to add the characteristics that would label it as a circus elephant. As you move through the drawing, focus on each individual part of the elephant before moving on to the next to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Instructions

1. Draw a large circle on a piece of drawing paper using a pencil. This circle will later be transformed into the elephant's body. Draw a smaller circle that very slightly overlaps the larger one to form the elephant's head.

2. Create two triangle shapes sideways over each side of the smaller circle for the ears of the elephant. Add four stumpy legs beneath the large circle, shaped like rectangles with rounded edges for the feet.

3. Sketch a trunk that reaches from the bottom of the face and curves at the end. On each side of where the trunk meets the elephant's face, add a pointed, slender tusk. Draw in a small tail at the elephant's end. Elephant tails are skinny with a clump of hair at the end.

4. Add all the facial features to the elephant--eyes, nasal cavities at the end of the trunk and wrinkles that line the face--to add a realistic touch. Use an eraser to remove all overlapping lines.

5. Draw a large, decorative blanket that drapes over the elephant's back. You can elaborate the blanket using any sort of design that you like. Add tiny star shapes to represent the glitter of the sequins on the blanket. You can also add a round cap that rests on the elephant's head, with a large feather protruding from the top that reaches upward.
